What about guitar playing? well I,m sure this is gonna be very helpful Understanding how a bass line functions is crucial if you want to transcribe the chords of a song. The bass line will help you calculate the chord progression. The chord progression is used to determine the key of the song. Then you can extend the chords within the key and use the Major scale for your guitar solo.

Play the root followed by the notes of the scaleThe bass line must start with the root of the chord and be followed by the notes from the key the chord is in.We will locate all of the keys that contain each chord. then compare them to find the common denominator If the chord is Am7, the root note A may be followed by any notes from the key. (In any order) If the chord is D7, the root note D may be followed by any notes from the key. (In any order) You could follow each chord root with the same notes if they appear in the same key.

Am7 is the VI chord of C Major D7 is the V chord in G Major Our analyzation shows that the chords both appear in the key of G Major.
